Salt & your horse
+Why does my horse need a salt lick?
Horses lose salt through sweat and need it every day to stay hydrated and keep their electrolytes in balance. Hay and grain usually don't supply enough sodium, so a free-choice salt lick lets your horse take what it needs.
+What is the difference between a Himalayan salt lick and a white salt block?
White salt blocks are usually refined sodium chloride. Himalayan salt is natural, unrefined rock salt that also contains trace minerals such as potassium, magnesium, calcium and iron, which give it its pink color. It is a natural salt source, not a complete mineral supplement, so keep feeding a balanced diet. Read the full comparison.
+Is Himalayan salt safe for other animals?
Several of our salt licks are also suitable for cattle, goats, camels and other livestock. Check the "Suitable For" section on each product page.

Using your salt lick
+Should I hang the salt lick or put it in a holder?
Both work. Salt licks on a rope hang in the stall or trailer and stay off the ground and away from dirt. Salt bricks are shaped to sit in a standard salt block holder or feeder. See where to hang it.
+Can I leave a salt lick outside?
Our blocks are dense and made to handle normal stable and outdoor conditions, but rain slowly dissolves any salt. For the longest life, hang or place the block in a sheltered spot.
+How long does a salt lick last?
It depends on your horse, the weather and how hard your horse works. Horses lick more in hot weather and during heavy work. Check the block regularly and replace it when it gets small.
+Which size should I buy?
